Appetizers. Snacks. Pre-dinner treats.
Whatever you call them, I’m certainly a fan of a little something to tide me over before a meal. Especially when it’s easy to assemble, simple to serve, and wows just about everyone.
When I was shopping at my local grocery store, Jewel-Osco, I came across Cracker Barrel Cheese. It’s made from their own proprietary cheese cultures, and the cheeses are selectively graded so only the finest cheese gets sold as Cracker Barrel. The flavor is rich and bold, just the way I like it.
And because Cracker Barrel is the original, award-winning, rich and bold cheese since 1954, I knew it was a solid choice for a pre-dinner snack.

I stocked up on Cracker Barrel Rich & Bold Cubes Aged Reserve Cheddar, which I found in the cheese section, along with some other goodies from Jewel-Osco to make an easy cheese plate for a tasty snack.
I love shopping at Jewel-Osco and do so weekly for all of my grocery needs. My family has shopped there for as long as I can remember, and my husband and I do so, too. You can also download the Jewel-Osco mobile app and do your shopping there. So easy and convenient!

Now, let’s get down to business! This simple cheese board can be customized and assembled pretty much however you would like. There are no rules, friends. Just use ingredients that you have on hand to make this extra easy.
What do you put on a cheese board?
- Cheese, of course! Most any kind of cheese will work, but I love to use Cracker Barrel Cheese because of the quality and taste. Stick with one kind of cheese or use a variety, depending on your ingredients and preference.
- Crackers pair beautifully with cheese. Not only can you top a cracker with cheese, but it accentuates the flavor and gives it a nice crunch.
- Meats also work well with the cheese and crackers. I like to use a variety, such as prosciutto and salami.
- Fruit gives the cheese board a pretty pop of color, and a touch of sweetness, too. Grapes (red or green), strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries are a simple ingredient to add.
- Olives make the best salty accompaniment to a cheese platter. Although I love all kinds of olives, green or kalamata olives are my favorite to use.
- Nuts also help give the cheese board a crunch. Use whatever you like, such as almonds, pecans, or cashews. Anything that is easy to pick up will work well.
How to serve a cheese board?
- A platter or tray works best, as you can lay everything out and then pick up and serve to your guests.
- I like to add the cheese first, as this is the star of the show.
- Then, you can arrange the other items around as needed. I put crackers and fruit on the outer edge of the platter and then fill in the rest of the plate with smaller items, such as olives or nuts.
This cheese board recipe is simple, filled with tasty ingredients, and easy to serve to guests. It’s a delicious appetizer that looks like you spent all day preparing, when, in reality, it took less than 10 minutes!
So, if you’re looking for that perfect appetizer or snack for just about anytime, this easy cheese board recipe is it. I guarantee you’ll feel like the star of the show after serving (and devouring) it!
