Ingredients

Cinnamon sugar topping:

  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

French toast sticks:

  • 6 slices Texas toast (or other thick bread, such as challah)
  • ½ cup milk , any kind (I used 2%)
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Line a large baking pan with parchment paper or grease well with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl, whisk white sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Cut each slice of bread into 3 strips. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk milk, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla bean paste, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Dunk each slice of bread into egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Place onto prepared pan and sprinkle each stick with half of cinnamon sugar topping.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, remove from oven, flip sticks to opposite side and sprinkle with the rest of cinnamon sugar topping. Return to oven and bake for 10-12 more minutes, or until french toast sticks are cooked through and golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with syrup for dunking, if desired.
