Biscuit Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Whipping Cream Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

  • Preheat oven to 425F.
  • In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, white sugar, and salt.
  • Using a grater, pastry blender, or two forks, cut in cold butter until mixture is crumbly (see note below). Add chocolate chips and stir to combine. Slowly add in buttermilk, stirring to combine.
  • On a lightly floured surface, knead dough 5-6 times and then roll about 3/4 inches thick.
  • Dip a 2 inch round cutter into flour, and then cut dough. Roll remaining scraps and repeat. You should end up with about 9-10 biscuits. Place biscuits into a 10-inch cast iron skillet, touching slightly.
  • Bake for 16-17 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for about 30 minutes.
  • To make the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, whipping cream, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Drizzle over cooled biscuits.
