The fall season is officially here, friends.

And if you’ve been around here long enough, you know it’s my favorite time of year. Pumpkin everything, apple treats, cooler weather, leaves changing colors…I could go on and on. Some of my favorite fall traditions are baking up cozy treats, like pumpkin cheesecake cookies, pumpkin pecan bars, and a warm pumpkin cobbler fresh from the oven. And of course, I can never resist those pumpkin cream cold brews or pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks (my ultimate weakness!).

But today, I’ve got something a little different for you…a creamy pumpkin spice milkshake. It’s basically pumpkin pie in frosty, ice cream form, the perfect way to enjoy fall flavors whether it’s still warm outside or starting to feel crisp. With just a few ingredients, vanilla ice cream, real pumpkin, and pumpkin pie spice, you’ll have this decadent shake ready in minutes. Top it with caramel sauce and whipped cream, and you’ve got yourself an irresistibly delicious treat that tastes like pure autumn in a glass.

Ingredients in Pumpkin Pie Shakes:

This pumpkin pie shake is creamy, cozy, and bursting with fall flavor in every sip. Made with just a few simple ingredients, it comes together in minutes for the perfect seasonal treat. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Milk: Whole milk, 2% or skim milk works best
  • Pure pumpkin: be sure to use pure pumpkin (or pumpkin puree), not pumpkin pie filling
  • Vanilla
  • Pumpkin pie spice

How to Make Pumpkin Pie Milkshakes:

Pumpkin pie milkshakes couldn’t be easier to make! With just a quick blend of a few simple ingredients, you’ll have a creamy, spiced treat ready to enjoy in minutes. Here’s how:

  1. In the canister of a blender, add the vanilla ice cream, milk, pumpkin, vanilla, and pumpkin pie spice. Blend until it reaches your desired consistency. If needed, add a bit more milk to thin out.
  2. Pour into two glasses and garnish with whipped cream, pumpkin pie spice, and/or a drizzle of caramel sauce, if desired. Serve immediately.

What Kind of Pumpkin Should You Use?

You want to make sure that you are using pure pumpkin from a can (unless you want to go the extra mile and use a fresh pumpkin). Pumpkin pie filling is not the same as canned pumpkin puree, as it contains sugars and other ingredients commonly used in pumpkin pie.

Topping Ideas:

  • A dollop of whipped cream
  • A dash of pumpkin pie spice or ground cinnamon
  • A drizzle of caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Crushed graham crackers (for a pumpkin pie texture)

Variations:

  • Swap out the ice cream: use pumpkin ice cream or even a French vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt.
  • Is your milkshake too thick? Add a touch of milk to thin it out.
  • Love pumpkin spice lattes? Add a few shots of chilled espresso or coffee to make this a pumpkin spice latte milkshake recipe.
  • Add some mix-ins: Crumbled shortbread cookies, M&Ms, or even Oreos would make a delicious addition.
  • Switch up the flavor: swirl in some maple syrup or brown sugar for added flavor.
  • Want a boozy pumpkin shake? Add some vodka (a flavored vodka, such as caramel or whipped cream vodka would be tasty) or Bailey’s liqueur.
