Today I’m sharing my absolute favorite apple cobbler recipe. It’s super easy to make and delicious whether served warm from the oven or at room temp. Don’t forget the big scoop (or three) of vanilla ice cream!

- Brown sugar
- Lemon juice

- All-purpose flour
- Sugar
- Baking powder
- Cinnamon
- Salt
- Vanilla
- Milk
- Unsalted butter
- Caramel sauce
What are the best apples for apple cobbler?
A sweeter, tart apple works best for baking. I like to use Granny Smith, gala, golden delicious, or honeycrisp. You can even combine different varieties for an even better taste.
How to make Apple Cobbler:
Making this apple cobbler couldn’t be easier! With just a few simple steps, you’ll have a warm, golden dessert filled with tender spiced apples and a soft, buttery topping. Here’s how to bring it all together:
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, spices, and vanilla. Toss to combine, ensuring that all of the apple slices are coated with the sugar mixture. Spread the apples evenly into a baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the dry ingredients for the cobbler topping: flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in some vanilla, milk and melted butter until combined.
- Pour cobbler topping over the sliced apples and bake until golden.
- If serving right away, let cool for about 15 minutes and then drizzle some Salted Caramel Sauce (or a jarred sauce) over cobbler and top with a big scoop (or three) of vanilla ice cream.

How to store apple cobbler:
Let the homemade apple cobbler cool to room temperature and then store in an airtight container or cover dish tightly with plastic wrap. Cobbler will keep for up to five days.
What is the difference between apple crisp and apple cobbler?
A cobbler is typically a baked fruit dessert with a biscuit-like, cake, or pie topping. A crisp is usually topped with a crispy, crunchy layer of ingredients, such as oats or rice krispie treats.
Tips for the Best Apple Cobbler:
- Sweet or slightly tart, fresh apples work best for this recipe. I used Granny Smith apples, but gala or honey crisp works just as well.
- Be sure to buy fresh apples and not the canned kind. The texture (and taste) just won’t be as good if you use canned apples.
- A good quality caramel sauce is the best addition to this cobbler. I used my salted caramel sauce, but you could use a jarred sauce of your choice.
- I chose to add the caramel sauce to the top of the easy apple cobbler once baked. However, you can stir in some caramel to the apple mixture before baking for even more caramel-y goodness.

Caramel Apple Cobbler
Ingredients
- 4 apples peeled, cored, and thinly sliced, Granny Smith, Gala, or Honey Crisp works well
- ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste, or vanilla extract
Cobbler Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste, or vanilla extract
- ¾ cup milk, any kind, (I used 2%)
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Salted Caramel Sauce, or jarred topping of choice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly coat a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Stir well to combine, ensuring that all apples are coated with mixture. Spread in an even layer in prepared dish. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Add vanilla, milk, and unsalted butter. Stir well to combine. Pour batter evenly over apple mixture. (*SEE NOTE BELOW*)
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until edges are set and topping is cooked through and golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 15 minutes. Before serving, top with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream, if desired.
