Chicken Parm Burgers

There are no shortage of chicken recipes around here. From this chicken bacon ranch tortellini, instant pot bbq chicken, and pesto chicken sandwich, chicken is in full swing.

And along with chicken, if you love burger recipes, you’ve got to add these delicious chicken burgers to your menu.

It’s a cross between classic chicken parm and ground chicken burgers that’s perfect for the whole family. My favorite thing about this juicy burger recipe is that it’s made with simple ingredients and ready in no time. When you’re running short on time, this is an easy dinner that’s full of flavor.

These chicken patties are perfect for meal prep. You can make the chicken mixture and shape into patties the night before and then store the uncooked chicken burgers in the refrigerator until ready to cook.

The chicken patty cooks up tender, flavorful, and juicy. The melty mozzarella cheese and savory marinara sauce make these burgers anything but boring.

I like to use lean ground chicken and homemade sauce (if I have some on-hand), but store-bought sauce works just as well. And the best way to prepare these burgers are by using an oven, grill pan, or even your gas grill. These burger patties are almost fool-proof and simple to prepare, no matter the method.

And it’s a fun twist on a regular burger or traditional chicken…mmm mmm good!

Ingredients in Chicken Parmesan Burgers:

  • Ground chicken
  • Marinara sauce
  • Plain or Italian bread crumbs
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Seasonings: Garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh mozzarella cheese slices
  • Hamburger buns or ciabatta rolls, if desired

How to Make Chicken Burgers:

  • In a large mixing bow, combine chicken, ¼ cup marinara sauce, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, onion and garlic powders, salt and pepper. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, or burgers will be tough. Form mixture into four even patties.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the burgers for 4-5 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reaches 165℉.
  • While the burgers are cooking, heat the remaining ½ cup of marinara sauce in a small saucepan.
  • Once the burgers are cooked, remove them from the heat, add a heaping spoonful of marinara and top with a slice of fresh mozzarella. Cover the pan and allow the burgers to sit for a few minutes until the cheese melts. Alternatively, if your skillet is oven safe, you can place the burgers under the broiler for a few minutes to melt the cheese.
  • Serve the burgers on toasted buns with extra marinara, if desired.

Can I Cook These on the Grill?

Yes! To grill the burgers, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill each burger for 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165℉.

How to Store Leftovers:

Store burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.

How to Freeze:

Form chicken mixture into patties and then freeze the burgers on a sheet pan until solid. Then, wrap in foil or plastic wrap and place in a freezer-safe container or bag in the freezer for up to two months.

How to Serve:

I like to serve these burgers on toasted buns with extra marinara sauce, tomato slices, and fresh basil leaves. You can also serve this without the bun, alongside a green salad, pasta, or even spaghetti squash.

Recipe Variations:

  • Swap out the lean ground chicken for ground turkey or use a chicken breast.
  • Don’t have marinara sauce on-hand? Tomato sauce with a dash of seasonings would work just as well.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the burgers for an extra touch of flavor.
  • Instead of hamburger buns, serve the burgers on ciabatta rolls or garlic bread.

Tips for Making the Best Chicken Parm Burgers:

  • Be careful not to overmix the chicken mixture: this will result in tough burgers.
  • Try not to press down on the burgers while cooking: this will release the juices and make them drier.
  • Keep an eye on the cooking time: you want the internal temperature to reach 165℉. Going over this temperature will result in overcooked meat.
  • To get that melty cheese: put the burgers under the broiler or in the oven for a few minutes.
