Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
- Quick and Easy: These sweet potatoes wedges in the air fryer take less than 30 minutes to make.
- Minimal Ingredients: A couple sweet potatoes, olive oil, and seasonings are all you need to make a delicious side dish.
- Healthier Alternative: These homemade wedges are a healthy side dish and taste even better than the fried kind!
- Meal Prep: If making your meals ahead of time is your goal, these air fryer potato wedges hit the spot.
- Customizable: You can use your favorite cooking oil and seasonings to adjust this recipe to fit your tastes.

Ingredients Needed:
- Sweet Potatoes: I like to use potatoes that are wide and have a smooth skin.
- Olive Oil: This will help the seasonings stick to the sweet potato slices. Avocado oil or vegetable oil will also work.
- Seasonings: Garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper make the most delicious blend.
How to Make Sweet Potato Wedges in Air Fryer:
- Preheat: If your air fryer model has this option, preheat it to 400°F.
- Prepare: Cut off the ends of each sweet potato and then cut each one in half and then in half again to form wedges.
- Season: Place the potatoes to a large bowl or resealable bag and add the olive oil and seasonings. Toss to coat or seal bag and shake well.

- Cook: Place potatoes in a single layer in air fryer basket and cook for 7 minutes, then flip each one, and continue to cook for 7-9 minutes, or until the sweet potato slices have crispy edges on the outside and are fork tender on the inside.
How to Store:
Leftover potato wedges will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
- To Reheat in the Air Fryer: Pop them back in the air fryer basket at 375°F for 3–5 minutes to restore crispiness.
- To Reheat in the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F and spread the wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until warmed through and crisp.
Tip: Avoid microwaving the wedges if you want them to stay crispy.
- To Freeze: Place wedges in a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze for up to two months. When you’re ready to serve, there is no need to thaw them…just pop the potatoes into the air fryer at 350°F and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until heated through.

Why Won’t My Sweet Potato Fries Get Crispy in the Air Fryer?
There are several reasons for this:
- Your air fryer temperature could’ve been too low, which won’t crisp them.
- You may have used too much oil, which would cause the potatoes to be soggy. Try using less oil (or use a spray oil, which is easier to control).
- If you didn’t allow enough room between each sweet potato when cooking, it might’ve prevented the air from circulating, causing a soggy wedge.
Dipping Sauce Ideas:
I love to dip the sweet potato air fryer wedges in ketchup or ranch dressing, but here are a few other sauce ideas:
- Garlic aioli or chipotle mayo
- Barbecue sauce
- Blue cheese dressing
- Spicy sriracha yogurt dip
- Honey mustard

What to Serve with These Crispy Wedges:
These wedges are super versatile and pair well with a variety of meals. Try them with:
- Burgers or Sandwiches: A fun swap for regular fries.
- Grilled or Baked Chicken: Great for weeknight dinners.
- Veggie or Turkey Burgers: A healthy, satisfying combo.
- Wraps or Pitas: Add them on the side or even inside for extra texture.
- Eggs and Avocado: For a savory twist on breakfast or brunch.
Tips and Tricks:
- Cut Evenly: For best results, try to slice the wedges the same size so they cook evenly. Thicker wedges may need a few extra minutes.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Basket: Cook in batches if needed to make sure the air can circulate and crisp up each piece.
- Pat Them Dry: After slicing, pat the sweet potatoes with a paper towel to remove excess moisture before adding oil and seasonings.
- Adjust Seasonings After Cooking: Taste and sprinkle with extra salt or seasoning blend right after air frying for a flavor boost.

Air Fryer Sweet Potato Wedges
Ingredients
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, (washed and dried)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, (regular paprika also works)
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- Preheat your Air Fryer to 400℉ (if your model has this option).
- Cut both ends off each sweet potato and then cut each potato in half, and then in half again, to form wedges.
- Place potatoes into a large bowl or resealable bag. Add the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme. Toss well to coat or seal bag and shake well.
- Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper or spray well with cooking spray. Place potatoes in an even, single layer in basket, being careful not to overcrowd (as we want crisp wedges, not soft and soggy). You may need to work in batches, depending on how many wedges you have.
- Cook for 8 minutes, remove basket and flip each wedge, and continue to cook for 7-9 minutes, or until the outsides of wedges are crisp and then center of potatoes are soft when pricked with a fork. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Leftover wedges will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
- Be sure to slice the potatoes into uniform wedges so that they cook evenly.
- Be careful not to overcrowd the air fryer basket, otherwise the potatoes may not cook evenly and won’t turn out as crisp. You may need to cook the wedges in several batches, depending on how many you have.
