Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
- Simple Ingredients: Just a box of yellow cake mix, frozen berries, and sugar, no fancy steps or prep work required.
- Quick to Make: Toss this easy blackberry cobbler together in minutes and let the oven do the rest.
- Versatile: Use your favorite berry blend or some fresh berries for the perfect amount of fruit.
- Golden, Buttery Topping: The cake mix creates a crisp, crumbly crust that pairs perfectly with the juicy berries.
- Easy Cleanup: One pan, no mixing bowls, and barely any mess.

Ingredients Needed:
- Mixed Berries: I used a bag of frozen berries for convenience, but fresh also works.
- Sugar: To balance the tartness from the berries.
- Cornstarch: This will help thicken the berry mixture.
- Cake Mix: I used a golden butter cake mix for extra flavor and richness.
- Butter: One stick of unsalted butter is needed to help create that cobbler topping.
How to Make Berry Cobbler with Cake and Frozen Berries:
- Combine: Mix the berries, sugar, and cornstarch in a baking dish. In a small bowl, mix the cake mix and melted butter until it becomes crumbly.
- Top: Sprinkle the top of the berries with the cake mix.

- Bake: Place into a preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top of the cobbler is golden and cooked through.
How to Store:
Store leftover cobbler in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to four days.
- Reheating: Warm individual portions in the microwave for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, or pop the whole dish in a 350°F oven for 10–15 minutes until heated through.
- Freezing: You can freeze the baked cobbler for up to two months. Let it cool completely, wrap it tightly, and freeze. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
Can I Make this Cobbler Gluten-Free?
Definitely! You can use a gluten-free cake mix in place of the regular version for this mixed berry cobbler with cake mix.
Can I Use Frozen Berries in Cobbler?
Yes! While you can use fresh fruit, frozen berries are great for ease and convenience. And there is no need to thaw the berries before baking.

What Kind of Cake Mix Should I Use?
I love using a golden butter cake mix for a rich flavor. However, yellow, chocolate cake mix, or white cake mix works well in this easy dessert recipe.
Serving Suggestions:
I like to serve this old fashioned berry cobbler with cake mix warm from the oven with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and some homemade whipped cream. You could also serve this with a drizzle of heavy cream or caramel sauce on top of the fruit.
Variations and Substitutions:
- Berries: Use can use fresh berries instead of frozen or switch up the fruit and make this with blueberries, blackberries, or strawberries.
- Switch up the Cake Mix: Strawberry, vanilla, or even lemon cake mix would be delicious.
- Add Some Spices: A sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg for a hint of flavor.
- Sprinkle in Some Nuts: Mix in a handful of chopped walnuts or pecan for a crunchy texture in this cake mix cobbler.
