How to Store Blueberry Dump Cake:

Can I Use Another Type of Cake Mix?
Yes! My secret ingredient to make the ‘cobbler’ topping taste extra delicious is using a golden butter cake mix. It gives this blueberry cake an extra hint of buttery richness.
However, if you can’t find a butter cake mix, yellow cake mix would work just as well, too.
Can I use frozen fruit in this dump cake?
Yes! Fresh or frozen blueberries works well and I guarantee you won’t notice a difference. If you make this dump cake with frozen fruit, it makes this blueberry dump cake recipe acceptable to make year round.
I like to make this blueberry dump cake with fresh blueberries whenever I can though, because fresh berries taste so much sweeter to me.

No, if making the recipe with frozen blueberries you do NOT need to thaw them first. However, you may need to add a couple minutes to the bake time.
That’s it! You really just dump everything together and the let the oven work its magic.

Can you freeze dump cake?
You sure can! Simply store cake in a freezable ziploc bag or container for up to 3 months. When ready to serve, thaw, and enjoy!
Dump Cake Variations to Try:
- It’s easy to customize a dump cake, depending on your tastes. Swap out the blueberries with your fruit of choice, such as raspberries, pineapple, or peaches.
- Combining fruits would work beautifully, too. How about a mixed berry, cherry pineapple, or strawberry banana dump cake?
- Want to change the flavor of the cake? Swap out the butter cake mix with french vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate, or strawberry.
So, have I convinced you to try this recipe for blueberry dump cake yet? I guarantee it’ll be your favorite summer treat and maybe, just maybe, your secret dessert weapon, too!
Tips and Tricks:
- Use a glass or ceramic dish for even baking and a golden top. Metal pans tend to brown the edges faster.
- Don’t stir the layers! Dump cake magic happens when the ingredients bake in layers—just sprinkle and bake.
- Add a citrus twist: A little lemon zest over the blueberries adds brightness and enhances flavor.
- Boost the texture: Sprinkle chopped pecans or slivered almonds over the top for a sweet crunch.
- Want it extra juicy? Add a handful of fresh blueberries to the canned filling for added texture and a burst of berry flavor.
- Cool slightly before serving so the filling sets up just enough—but it’s still dreamy with melty vanilla ice cream.

I happen to really enjoy dump cakes and am always looking for a new recipe. I love blueberries, so I click on to this one immediately. Most of mine use crushed pinneapple and juice first, then the base fruit. I noticed no pinneapple, okay, but when the recipe said to put the dry cake mix over the strawberries, oops!
I’ve never made a dump cake with pineapple juice, but sounds good! This one is so easy. You’d love it!

Correct, just follow the directions as is. Hope you enjoy!
This is an awesome recipe. So easy. I used frozen blueberries and sprinkled a bit of sugar over the top. I melted the butter and mixed the cake mix with the butter. Dropped the mixture over the blueberries and sprinkled cinnamon sugar on top lightly. It looks great and tastes delicious. You created the best dump cake ever. Well done. Thank you very much.
